Mission Statement and General Policies

 

TCAS is a fencing school dedicated to the art of fencing in the classical Italian style.

We will treat one another with honor and respect.

 When we compete we acknowledge that we are competing with ourselves first.

We will be critical of our own skills and appreciative of our opponents’ accomplishments.

Our successes are equal to our efforts.

Our individual efforts are responsible for our groups’ success.

Every student is a teacher; the sharing of knowledge will reward us with a deeper understanding of what we have learned.

We are humble in victories and gracious in defeat.

Our primary goal is personal enrichment.

Safety while in the salle is the responsibility of everyone; unsafe behavior will not be tolerated or excused. 

Our salle and equipment is available for our use; anything that is damaged by an individual will be replaced by that individual.

The primary weapon for every new student is foil.

 Fencing by new students is not allowed until it can be demonstrated that it can be accomplished with the proper form, attitude and technique.

When a significant degree of proficiency in the proper use of the foil is shown other standard weapons can be explored.

Classical weapons of either French or Italian design are the only weapons to be used in the salle.

Historic weapons study for advanced students must be from documented and proven technique and are secondary to any standard weapons study.
